Jim Moyle of Atlantis Computing Receives Prestigious Citrix Technology Professional Award

Atlantis Computing™, the leader in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) storage and performance optimization solutions announced that Jim Moyle, Lead Solutions Consultant for Europe at Atlantis Computing, has been awarded the prestigious Citrix Technology Professional (CTP) Award for 2012. Jim is one of only ten virtualization experts worldwide to receive the CTP award in 2012. Only forty seven people currently hold this award globally.

The Citrix Technology Professional (CTP) Program recognizes and supports the contributions of highly visible, credible and accessible individuals that have invested a tremendous amount of time and resources in sharing their expertise in Citrix products and solutions. These individuals have consistently demonstrated their real-world knowledge, industry expertise and technological insights.

“I feel privileged to join the CTP community which includes some of the most respected virtualization experts such as Shawn Bass, Brian Madden, Chris Wolf and Ruben Spruijt,” said Jim Moyle, Lead Solutions Consultant, Atlantis Computing. “I look forward to sharing the knowledge I’ve gained working with customers on Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp deployments and publishing my research in the area of desktop virtualization.”

CTPs have enabled the success of Citrix implementations worldwide, whether through sharing knowledge on websites, publishing technical documentation, creating active communities of Citrix users, participating through online discussion forums, offering technical expertise in the field, or speaking publicly at IT conferences. The wealth of knowledge they have developed - and more importantly, openly shared - has proven invaluable to Citrix customers.

In addition to working with customers on desktop virtualization projects, Jim is a frequent speaker at industry events such as BriForum, E2EVC and Citrix Synergy. In 2011, Jim published his independent research title “Windows 7 IOPS Deep Dive” and presented the research at several industry events to help the virtualization community understand the storage challenges and performance implications of deploying Windows 7 with VDI. The Windows 7 IOPS research has been download thousands of times and was ranked as one of the top ten sessions at BriForum in 2011.

“Jim embodies the CTP program by working closely with real-world customers and then sharing his experience and knowledge with the Citrix virtualization community,” said Bernard Harguindeguy, CEO of Atlantis Computing. “We are thrilled for Jim as this represents many years of working within the Citrix community to help customers deploy desktop virtualization successfully. Our customers have long benefited from Jim’s expertise and we look forward to continue working closely with them as they scale their virtualization deployments.”

Jim Moyle will be co-presenting with fellow CTP Shawn Bass on April 11th at 9AM Pacific Time the webinar “Optimizing Citrix XenApp for the Virtual Data Center.” To register for the webinar, visit http://bit.ly/virtualizexenapp

Atlantis Computing Accelerates Virtualized Citrix XenApp According To Independent Testing by Citrix CTP Shawn Bass

Product Review Validates Atlantis ILIO for XenApp Accelerates Performance with 53% Faster Provisioning and 77% Shorter Boot Times While Using 92% Less Storage

Atlantis Computing™, the leader in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) storage and performance optimization solutions, today announced the results of an independent product test performed by Citrix CTP and Microsoft MVP, Shawn Bass. The findings of the product review validate that the Atlantis ILIO for Citrix XenApp solution delivers 53% faster provisioning, 77% shorter boot times and a reduction in storage requirements by 92%. Based on the report by Shawn Bass, deploying virtualized Citrix XenApp workloads with Atlantis ILIO can accelerate XenApp performance, reduce storage requirements and increase density in an IO constrained environment.

Atlantis ILIO for XenApp is a software virtual machine that complements virtualized Citrix XenApp by accelerating performance, increasing server density and reducing the amount of storage required. Accelerating provisioning and boot times simplifies the management of XenApp by giving administrators the flexibility to refresh VMs more frequently with less downtime. By eliminating the IO bottleneck associated with running virtualized XenApp with SAN or NAS, Atlantis ILIO is able to increase density while delivering a better user experience.

Atlantis ILIO for XenApp Test Results Summary
In testing by Shawn Bass in a storage-constrained environment, Atlantis ILIO for XenApp was able to:
• Reduce provisioning time by 53%
• Reduce VM boot time by 77%
• Reduce storage requirements by 92%
• Provide 16% more XenApp sessions while delivering 30-100% faster response time as measured by LoginVSI

However, testing single server scalability isn’t enough to show the true value of Atlantis ILIO. To illustrate the benefits of Atlantis ILIO at scale, Shawn Bass conducted tests that maximized IOPS and throughput on the underlying storage. Atlantis ILIO for XenApp was found to:

• Increase IOPS by a factor of 60-100
• Increase disk throughput by a factor of 75
• Reduce perceived storage latency by a factor of 75

“Shawn Bass has been involved with some of the largest XenApp deployments in the world and the findings of this independent testing is further validation of the value Atlantis ILIO brings to the XenApp market,” said Bernard Harguindeguy, president and CEO, Atlantis Computing. “Atlantis ILIO will help anyone who wants to virtualize their XenApp to avoid performance problems related to storage and get the most out of their infrastructure.”

Storage Switzerland Identifies Gridstore Scale-Out NAS Solution as The Fault Tolerant Grid

Hands-On Reliability Test Reveals Gridstore’s Highly Available Storage Grid is Unstoppable

Mountain View, Calif. – Gridstore™, the leader in grid-based, scale-out storage solutions, today announced that its Gridstore 2.0 system has passed the reliability test performed by leading analyst firm Storage Switzerland, with flying colors. Gridstore’s scale-out NAS solution has now withstood four months of rigorous testing with absolutely no issues or outages.

With this latest test, Storage Switzerland wanted to find out if the Gridstore grid-based storage solution was a true fault tolerant system as claimed. “We set up a test scenario writing files continually to the test system and failed a node to see what would happen,” said George Crump, senior analyst, Storage Switzerland. “As a result of the node failure the test application experienced no hesitation, nor did we see any change in performance.”

Once the test was completed the failed node quickly re-synced itself into the grid. The re-sync process was seamless and there was no need to repopulate the restarted node from scratch. The system was able to do a quick comparison of data and it returned to operations with no business disruption, data loss, or performance degradation.

Gridstore uniquely combines virtualization with a grid processing platform to deliver a single pool of storage that simplifies management while increasing performance, scalability and reliability. Gridstore provides a building block approach to capacity scaling so customers can start small and incrementally add nodes. This eliminates the need to overprovision costly resources and removes the management complexity and risk of traditional clustered storage models.

“Gridstore’s scale-out NAS solution has stood up to the arduous testing by Storage Switzerland and the findings validate that our grid-based storage system has enterprise-class fault tolerance,” said Kelly Murphy, CEO, Gridstore. “Organizations can now choose a mid-tier enterprise storage system that delivers 3x more throughput and capacity efficiency while providing plug and play simplicity all at a fraction of the price of silo-based, legacy solutions.”
