Atlantis Computing and Axept AG Solve the VDI Storage Challenge for Swiss Bank
Frankfurter Bankgesellschaft Cuts VDI Storage Costs by 93 Percent from $2,223 per Desktop to Just $150
Mountain View, CA October 26, 2011
Atlantis Computing™, the leader in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) storage and performance optimization solutions, today announced that Frankfurter Bankgesellschaft, an international private bank with 7 Billion Swiss Francs under management, has implemented Atlantis ILIO as part of its Citrix XenDesktop desktop virtualization project to reduce the cost of storage by 93 percent and improve the user experience. Axept AG, a Swisscom IT services company, recommended and delivered the Atlantis ILIO solution to Frankfurter Bankgesellschaft, cutting the bank’s VDI storage costs and solving the performance challenges that were preventing the VDI project from being deployed company-wide.
“Atlantis ILIO is an enabler for VDI. If you don't solve the storage I/O problem, the cost per desktop is extremely high. For Frankfurter Bank, the cost per desktop was 2,000 CHF using our SAN,” said Zdravko Ruzicic, Head of Systems & Network Engineering, Frankfurter Bankgesellschaft. “If you don't solve the cost and performance issues intelligently, management won’t accept the cost of VDI and it will lead to project cancellation. Atlantis ILIO enabled us to implement VDI for a lower cost than a physical PC by reusing our existing SAN more efficiently and reducing our storage costs by 93 percent in the process.”
Frankfurter Bankgesellschaft wanted to implement a virtual desktop client environment to provide secure and reliable remote access for employees and contract developers that could easily be managed by their IT staff. IT management was committed to the virtualization strategy, but the pilot VDI deployment suffered from severe I/O bottlenecks and users complained about poor performance.
The bank considered several options to improve storage performance, but costs were staggering, particularly given the scale of the bank’s deployment and limited resources available. Choosing Atlantis ILIO allowed the bank to dramatically reduce IOPS required from the storage system, cut the storage capacity consumed and improved application response time for a fraction of the cost of buying additional SAN or SSD storage. Using Atlantis ILIO, Frankfurter Bank was able to reduce the cost of storage per desktop from 2,000 CHF per desktop to just 132 CHF, or the equivalent of $2,223 USD down to $150 USD with a much better user experience.
“Frankfurter Bankgesellschaft needed to find a solution to their VDI storage problem that could deliver performance equal to a PC, with a lower cost than a PC, or they would have to cancel the VDI project,” said Oliver Grossenbacher, Sales Manager at Axept AG. “Atlantis ILIO was a perfect software solution that integrated seamlessly into the bank’s existing Citrix XenDesktop infrastructure and allowed them to leverage the existing storage rather than buy additional expensive SAN or SSD storage. We have many other customers that find themselves in similar situations as they try to grow their VDI deployment, and we are very excited to be able to help them implement Atlantis ILIO in order to make their VDI deployment successful.”

@StorageSwiss identifies @Gridstore 2.0 as successful Scale-Out NAS for system expansion http://bit.ly/t7jvNf
STORAGE SWITZERLAND VALIDATES EASE OF EXPANSION AS KEY COMPONENT OF THE GRIDSTORE SCALE-OUT NAS SOLUTION
Gridstore’s Next-Generation NAS Gives Organizations a Simple Building Block Approach to Add Capacity Based on Business Requirements Eliminating the Need to Overprovision Costly Storage Resources
Mountain View, Calif. October 25, 2011 Gridstore™, the leader in scale-out NAS solutions, today announced additional findings as part of a 90 day test drive series conducted by Storage Switzerland titled, “Gridstore Scale Out NAS Test Drive – Expansion.” Part three of the hands-on review of the Gridstore NASg solution validates the ease of expanding volumes as a key component of the Gridstore system.
Gridstore’s scale-out NAS solution has stood up to three months of rigorous performance and reliability testing by Storage Switzerland with absolutely no issues or outages. In the past, the firm has tested other NAS systems without proper power shutdown and found that they inexplicably reboot, turn themselves off or just drop their network connection.
With Gridstore, organizations have a building block approach to storage that allows them to add capacity on the fly by simply adding additional nodes when needed. The Gridstore NASg virtualizes any number of storage nodes into a powerful storage grid that eliminates storage sprawl and multiple single points of failure while providing a next-generation storage offering at 1/2 the cost of standalone NAS solutions.
“The point of scale-out NAS is to be able to grow when you need it without overprovisioning costly storage resources,” said Kelly Murphy, CEO, Gridstore. “With Gridstore’s solution, every organization, regardless of the size of its data storage requirements, can easily add capacity by simply connecting additional nodes and letting our system take care of the rest. Storage Switzerland has validated that our scale-out NAS works with ease and stands up to the test for increased scalability, performance and reliability.”

@TreeHouse Interactive: Marketing and a 5-Part Methodology for Creating Positioning that Works - http://bit.ly/votctd
How to Create Positioning that Works - A 5-Part Methodology - http://bit.ly/votctd
Authors:
Erich Flynn, CEO
Chris Frank, Marketing Director
TreeHouse Interactive
One of the most basic and fundamental deliverables marketing teams need to provide is positioning for their companies and products. The right positioning establishes appropriate target markets, competitive agenda and key messages for the most effective marketing results. Without it, salespeople say one thing, marketers say another, press releases are off target, social media efforts focus on the wrong ideas and outbound campaigns miss their mark.
Best-in-class companies clearly know which issues they solve, how they solve them better than their competition, and how to both articulate and support those messages in all areas.
This article, the first in a series, outlines a clear methodology for creating positioning that works. In short, positioning can be summed up into five parts:
· Research
· Market Segmentation
· Competitive Differentiation
· Positioning Statement Development
· Education and Distribution

Marketing and the Top 3 Secrets for Engaging Prospects - http://bit.ly/v4VPOL
Author: Chris Frank, Marketing Director TreeHouse Interactive
Many marketers never seem to connect with their prospects and customers. It’s important to understand how you’re going to communicate to prospective buyers, before deciding what you’re going to tell them. If you want to create content that will resonate and help you engage, then be very aware of how your communication influences buyers. Understanding the top three "secrets" to communicating with buyers, will increase your chances of getting to the next step and moving toward a sale.
Communication Secret #1: It’s Not About You, Stupid
Over and over again, companies talk about themselves like their buyers already care about them. They don’t. If you have content that is primarily focused on you and your company, you’re not connecting with buyers. Focus on buyer issues and what you have to offer in those terms.
Communication Secret #2: Translate Your Speeds and Feeds
No one cares that your widget has a patented whatchamacallit. Find out how buyers talk about what you provide, speak the same language and organize information in a way that makes sense in the context of solving their problems.
Communication Secret #3: Talk to Them, Not Around Them
If you talk around buyers instead of directly to them, you'll lose their interest. Reference the industry and the issues faced by buyers. It can be a powerful tactic that transitions into 2nd person language, and addresses buyers more intimately.

ATLANTIS COMPUTING NAMED AS A TOP UP AND COMING CLOUD INNOVATOR FOR ITS INDUSTRY LEADING VDI STORAGE AND PERFORMANCE OPTIMIZATION SOLUTIONS
The Leaderboard Report Recognizes the Top 100 Vendors Gaining Mind Share in Q3 of 2011
Atlantis Computing, the leader in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) storage and performance optimization solutions, today announced it has been recognized on The Leaderboard as one of the Top 100 Up and Coming Innovators, Movers and Shakers. The list serves as an acknowledgement to vendors gaining mind share in Q3 of 2011. Atlantis Computing was named to the Top 100 list based on the company’s innovative technology for virtual desktops.
VDI is the fastest growing approach to allowing IT departments to centrally host and manage user desktops on a virtual machine residing in the data center. Users can access their server-hosted virtual desktops, including their applications and files, from anywhere there is connectivity and from a broad range of end-user devices (including iPads) using one of several remote display protocols. But two obstacles have slowed down adoption: the storage cost and user acceptance due to poor performance.
Atlantis ILIO virtual desktop optimization solution complements VMware, Citrix and Quest virtual desktop deployments to overcome the storage, performance and scalability challenges typically associated with VDI deployments. The Atlantis ILIO software allows organizations that are deploying virtual desktops to ensure the success of their project by slashing the amount of storage normally required, boosting performance to ensure user acceptance and enabling security to be deployed without impacting server density.
The Atlantis solution cuts VDI CAPEX up to 75 percent by using up to 90 percent less storage and enables the use of lower cost storage options including SAN, NAS or local disks. It also makes it possible for IT organizations to use anti-virus agents to overcome the performance and security hurdles. As a result end users reap the benefits of a virtual desktop experience that is better and faster than a physical PC.
“Companies like Google, IBM and Amazon are transforming the cloud computing space and to be included with this caliber of cloud providers is a real honor,” said Bernard Harguindeguy, CEO, Atlantis Computing. “With Atlantis ILIO our customers can finally afford to deploy virtual desktops and at the same time win user support for their project.”

About Atlantis Computing
Atlantis Computing is transforming enterprise desktop computing by solving the challenges of virtual desktop deployments: storage costs, performance and the impact of security on server density. The Atlantis ILIO software complements Citrix, VMware, and Quest VDI solutions to cut VDI costs and deliver a desktop that is faster than a PC. With Atlantis ILIO, IT organizations can deploy 4-7 times more desktops on the same storage footprint, making VDI more affordable by both cutting the amount of storage needed per desktop and enabling the use of less expensive storage. Atlantis Computing is privately held and funded by El Dorado Ventures, Partech International and Cisco Systems with headquarters in Mountain View, California, and offices in London, England and Bangalore, India.

@MicroMatic Streamlines Backup and Eliminates High Cost of Tape Using @Gridstore Scale-out NAS solution http://bit.ly/o1s9Tk
MICRO MATIC STREAMLINES BACKUP PROCESSES AND ELIMINATES THE HIGH COST OF TAPE USING GRIDSTORE SCALE-OUT NAS
Leading Global Supplier of Draught Beer Equipment Reduces Storage Sprawl and Eliminates the Cost of Physical Tapes with Next-Generation NAS Solution from Gridstore
Gridstore™, the leader in scale-out NAS solutions, today announced that Micro Matic, a leader in the global delivery of draught beer equipment, has optimized their growing storage infrastructure and reduced storage sprawl by deploying Gridstore’s next-generation NAS solution. With Gridstore’s Scale-out NAS solution Micro Matic now has a completely disk-based backup process which has streamlined the company’s data protection processes while eliminating the high cost and risk associated with tape.
Micro Matic is a major supplier of draught beer equipment in over 120 countries throughout the world. It serves the U.S. market through four strategically located distribution centers in west, central, southeast and northeast locations. These centers provide just-in-time delivery as a daily achievement. The company is committed to continually seek better ways to deliver quality draught beer and excellence in customer service.
Faced with the challenge of managing over 5TB of data sprawled over multiple data centers in California and Florida, Micro Matic needed to optimize its storage operations. Video training files, engineering drawings and user desktop files were rapidly consuming incrementally growing volumes of storage capacity.
“We quickly found ourselves managing over 5TB of data and our backup and restore process from tape placed us at risk,” said Eddie Palmer, system administrator, Micro Matic. “NAS was a practical approach to solving the problem, but traditional NAS would have been too expensive and would have continued to perpetuate our storage sprawl problem. We wanted to be proactive so that we could be prepared for our future growth and wanted to be able to expand as needed without having to overprovision our storage.”
That’s when Micro Matic discovered Gridstore. With the Gridstore Scale-out NAS solution, the beverage equipment company is able to combine the simplicity, convenience and affordability of NAS with the scalability, performance and reliability of enterprise-class storage. As a result, the company can achieve a powerful NAS storage grid that eliminates storage sprawl and multiple single points of failure while benefiting from a next-generation storage offering at half the cost of standalone NAS solutions.
“With Gridstore it was literally ‘set it and forget it,’” said Palmer. “Backups just work and there is no worry about tapes. It works completely with our existing infrastructure, except now we are completely disk-based for our backups which saves us both time and money.”
Micro Matic has seen the following benefits as a result of deploying Gridstore’s Scale-out NAS:
• Eliminated costly physical tape environment to a single disk-based backup operation removing single points of failure across its remote sites
• Powerful NAS storage grid that leverages parallel I/O to eliminate performance bottlenecks and scales to meet the growing demands of backup processes from multiple server environments.
• NonStop reliability - protection that goes beyond RAID protection of 1 or 2 disks. Micro Matic’s backup target can suffer multiple node failures without impacting backup processes or the availability of data. Gridstore makes it easy to recover from failed hardware by simply attaching a new storage node to the network.
• Incremental capacity that can be added on a Pay-as-you-Grow basis eliminates the need to overprovision storage resources and ensures backups never fail due to capacity limitations
“Gridstore’s Scale-out NAS is an ideal fit for organizations like Micro Matic that need to unify their distributed backup operations to eliminate risk and ensure a comprehensive data protection and business continuity process that allows them to simply set it and forget it,” said Kelly Murphy, CEO, Gridstore.
“Our customers can take advantage of a simple building block approach to storage that offers significantly better performance, reliability and scaling. It’s the ideal solution for any company looking to achieve greater storage flexibility at the industry’s most aggressive price points.”

@treehousei Discusses Core Issues for Companies that Sell Through the Channel - http://bit.ly/oER3tX
Core Issues for Companies that Sell Through the Channel - http://bit.ly/oER3tX
If businesses are going to be successful in developing an indirect channel, giving partners the tools they need to successfully sell, service and support their products is critical to success. Partner relationship management (PRM) enables companies to improve both the management and enablement of partner networks. It also improves communication and collaboration with partner members. PRM in its best form will reduce the costs of managing partner networks while, at the same time, improving the partner experience in those networks. It allows companies to scale and manage thousands of partners without having to increase staff. It enables partner success by giving partners what they need, when they need it.
However, there are core challenges common to all companies that sell through two-tier distribution. While there are many, the four below are some of the toughest to overcome.
Scalable and Effective Management of a Partner Network
It is very difficult to recruit, develop and maintain a good relationship with a large partner network. Technology is a must to cost-effectively get your partners the tools necessary to sell, service and support your products. Automation and on demand access to resources are key to scalability and cost-effective management.
Developing a Relationship with End Users
If you sell through the channel, it is very difficult to find out who your customers are. This gets more difficult as products move down the cost and complexity curve (think mainframes vs. mice). However, you must find a way to develop a relationship to effectively up-sell, resell and retain these customers. Moreover, you have to do this in a way that supports and complements the relationship the partner has with the end user. If not, you risk losing partners and many future customers in the process.
Staying Top of Mind with Partners
Partners rarely, if ever, build a business around a single product. How do you find ways to keep your solutions top of mind with your partner network? If you are a large company, you can probably spend your way out of this problem. If you are not, you need to get much more creative. Having effective communication with partners, motivating them with spiffs and providing better sales tools keeps your company and products on their preferred recommendation list.
Preventing Channel Conflict
It is critical when working with partners that you develop processes to prevent or at least minimize channel conflict. Conflict can exist between partners or between different segments of partners like VARs, OEMs and direct marketers. It can also exist where your company has both a partner network and a direct sales team.

@Metalogix webinar Oct. 4 features @TanejaGroup’s Christine Taylor and preparing for eDiscovery http://bit.ly/q3qjSI
METALOGIX WEBINAR EXPLORES BEST IT PRACTICES FOR PREPARING FOR EDISCOVERY
Leading Analyst Christine Taylor of the Taneja Group to Present Best Practices for Exchange Administrators to Prepare for eDiscovery Collections
WASHINGTON, DC October 3, 2011 – Metalogix Software, the trusted provider of content lifecycle management solutions for Microsoft® SharePoint®, Exchange®, and Cloud platforms, today announced a webinar which will help companies prepare Microsoft Exchange email for eDiscovery collections. The webinar, titled “Preparing for eDiscovery,” will take place on October 4, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. EST. Christine Taylor, strategic analyst at Taneja Group, and Patrick Dowling, vice president of business development at Metalogix, will be presenting.
eDiscovery is hitting Exchange administrators hard in mid-tier businesses because administrators are responsible for collecting this enormous volume of Exchange data, often housed across multiple servers and backup tapes. In this webinar, Patrick Dowling will discuss how Metalogix Archive Manager – Exchange Edition allows administrators to perform eDiscovery rapidly and conveniently in a defined and repeatable workflow.
Christine Taylor, analyst of the Taneja Group, will bring insight by going step-by-step through the eDiscovery process and discuss what IT and Exchange administrators can do to address the problem proactively. Christine has researched and written extensively on the role of technology in eDiscovery, compliance and governance, and information management and will share best practices for addressing these challenges.
“eDiscovery tends to focus on Exchange because of email’s role as the de facto platform for communication and collaboration within and between organizations,” said Patrick Dowling, vice president of business development, Metalogix. “Without third party tools, performing electronic data discovery in reaction to litigation in Exchange environments is a nightmare and this burden has consistently fallen on IT staff members who are unequipped to react and stretched for time to perform complex and non-standard processes. Email archiving solutions like Archive Manager – Exchange Edition not only provide the functionality and workflow to perform eDiscovery, but also free up the Exchange administrator by enabling more appropriate non-IT staff to focus on executing the eDiscovery process without violating data security, integrity or privacy concerns.”
Archive Manager - Exchange Edition reduces email storage costs by up to 80 percent and reduces backup and recovery times by 50 percent. It has successfully archived billions of emails and has simplified the jobs of thousands of customers worldwide. It is easy to install and is transparent to end users, while providing feature-rich search and legal hold capabilities. External email archiving complements Exchange 2010 to meet industry standards for Exchange performance and ensure legal compliance with more secure data retention and rapid eDiscovery.

METALOGIX BREAKS SHAREPOINT MIGRATION SPEED BARRIER, MOVING OVER 500GB PER DAY, FOR HIGH FIDELITY SHAREPOINT UPGRADES
New Product Releases Radically Increase the Speed of SharePoint Migrations and Upgrades by 1000% and Reduces the Time to Externalize SharePoint Content by Half
Anaheim, CA – SharePoint Conference – October 3, 2011 – Metalogix Software, the trusted provider of content lifecycle management solutions for Microsoft® SharePoint®, Exchange® and Cloud platforms, today announced major new product releases to address the ever-increasing size of SharePoint farms since the launch of SharePoint 2010.
Metalogix Migration Manager for SharePoint 5.0 includes powerful performance enhancements to address the operational need for speed when moving, upgrading or migrating SharePoint, including multithreading technology. These performance enhancements provide radical gains in migration speeds, while simultaneously ensuring high fidelity movement and integrity of SharePoint environments. Additionally, the Company announced enhancements to Metalogix StoragePoint, with performance enhanced job timing automation that reduces Binary Large Objects (BLOB) externalization processing time up to 50%. Together, these innovative solutions empower a faster SharePoint migration, simplified SharePoint management as well as optimizing SharePoint storage both on-premises and in the cloud.
“More than 66% of enterprises have deployed SharePoint and half of those organizations classify it as a top-five business application,” said Brian Babineau, vice president, research and analyst services, Enterprise Strategy Group. “Organizations should assume that SharePoint will fall into the ‘mission-critical’ category, if they haven’t already accepted this reality, and that the optimization of the environment—from provisioning, security, data mobility, and storage—has to be thought of and addressed holistically. The latest releases from Metalogix for content lifecycle management deliver compelling value for the overall performance of SharePoint and provide this holistic approach necessary for improved management, migration and storage efficiency.”
Dramatically Faster SharePoint Migrations
Metalogix Migration Manager for SharePoint 5.0, available this week in beta for existing customers, speeds site migrations and upgrades from days to minutes non-disruptively. Early lab testing of the new architecture shows more than 1000% performance improvement by leveraging sophisticated multithreading techniques. Using multithreading, Migration Manager for SharePoint can split migration tasks over multiple operations and run them simultaneously for record migration performance. Metalogix Migration Manager, considered the de facto standard for SharePoint migration and upgrades, also offers enhanced incremental copy intelligence that enables it to skip seamlessly over settings and content that doesn’t need to be migrated.
The new feature is especially useful for SharePoint environments with multiple layers of sub-sites.
When combined with the new Metalogix StoragePoint v3 series release(s), Metalogix Migration Manager for SharePoint drastically improves SharePoint migration performance by extending the use of proprietary “shallow copy” technology—customers with the largest files see the most benefit since all of the data does not need to be copied in the migration, such as document libraries or list attachments. StoragePoint enables organizations to offload unstructured content BLOBs from SharePoint content databases into lower cost storage systems and reduce their SQL content databases size by 95%. StoragePoint 3.2 has been enhanced to include performance automation improvements that distribute workload across servers, increasing BLOB externalization speed by up to 50%. The new version also includes a new migration scenario that catalogs content before executing a migration job as well as an improved File Share Librarian feature that supports multiple mappings of file share content per site collection.
“We had close to 200GB of storage in a single SharePoint content database,” said Matt Adkins, Microsoft Systems Lead, Liberty University. “It was really complicating things when it came to backups. We needed to optimize our SharePoint storage to improve performance and data protection processes. StoragePoint enables Liberty to keep its unstructured BLOB content such as PDFs, JPEG images and Microsoft Word documents out of SharePoint’s content databases and offload them onto virtually any mix of SAN, NAS or Cloud Storage. Just a couple of hours after installation, the university began to see immediate ROI by enabling it to leverage more cost-effective storage without sacrificing performance, functionality or user experience.”
Office 365 and Hybrid Cloud Support
Additionally, Metalogix Migration Manager for SharePoint was the first SharePoint migration product to support remote connections to SharePoint. With the latest product update, customers now have a number of connection options to SharePoint servers. The supported source servers include SharePoint Portal Server 2003 (SPS), WSS 2, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS), WSS 3, SharePoint Server 2010 and SharePoint Foundation 2010. In fact, Migration Manager for SharePoint is the only solution Microsoft has approved for installation in the Microsoft data centers for Office 365 dedicated or the Business Productivity Online Suite (BPOS-D).This approval is for the Microsoft SharePoint Online Code Analysis Framework (MSOCAF) in Office 365. For more information on Office 365 support with Migration Manager for SharePoint, click here: http://www.metalogix.com/News-Detail/11-06-27/Metalogix_Announces_General_Availability_Of_Microsoft_Office_365_Support_With_Metalogix_Migration_Manager_For_SharePoint.aspx
Since Migration Manager for SharePoint can connect to SharePoint servers using the native web services and SharePoint 2010 client object model, Metalogix customers can also copy data back and forth between the cloud and on-premises – ideal for hybrid cloud SharePoint architectures. Operations can be scheduled and then run at any time to create a two-way sync option. This offers powerful freedom to manage and move between on-premises and the cloud--whether it be a private cloud, multi-tenant environment, hybrid cloud or some combination.
The Power to Realize the Complete Value of SharePoint 2010
With Metalogix Migration Manager for SharePoint 5.0 series organizations can quickly benefit from many of the powerful enhancements available in SharePoint 2010. New, key features of Migration Manager for SharePoint that accelerate the value proposition for SharePoint 2010 include:
• Migrate Term Stores from SP 2010 to SP 2010: Customers can consolidate their taxonomy when they consolidate their SharePoint servers. Less servers results in simplified SharePoint management.
• User-Friendly Auto-Complete Feature to Add SharePoint Terms Using File Share Edition: This feature is a user-friendly way for customers to tag file share items before they get migrated to SharePoint. This speeds the ability to leverage the power of a centralized taxonomy on SharePoint 2010.
• Re-Templating to SharePoint 2010 Templates: A migration to SharePoint 2010 can be quickly enhanced with the newer, improved SharePoint 2010 templates if desired, rather than retaining the original site template designs.
“The hyper-growth of SharePoint over the next two years should be characterized as a SharePoint-palooza and having the fastest and most cost effective solutions to efficiently manage, migrate, store, archive and protect content throughout its entire lifecycle is going to be an operational imperative,” said Steven Murphy, CEO, Metalogix. “Our newly announced high-performance and increasingly cost-effective content lifecycle management solutions allow organizations to move, search and backup content faster than any other ISV – increasing your ability to scale, consolidate and simplify the management while reducing the total lifecycle costs of business critical Microsoft content on-premises or in the cloud.”
Pricing and Availability
Metalogix Migration Manager for SharePoint is available now with pricing starting as low as $6,000 per 75GB. Metalogix StoragePoint is also available now with pricing starting at $9,000 per web front end. For more information, please visit: www.metalogix.com.

Multinational Real Estate Firm, @KnightFrank LLP, Standardizes on SharePoint Migration and Management Solutions from @Metalogix http://bit.ly/pwhCAB
MULTINATIONAL REAL ESTATE FIRM, KNIGHT FRANK LLP STANDARDIZES ON SHAREPOINT MIGRATION, MANAGEMENT AND DATA PROTECTION SOLUTIONS FROM METALOGIX
Metalogix Migration Manager for SharePoint and StoragePoint Solutions Streamline Move from SharePoint 2007 to 2010 While Reducing Storage Resources and Management Overhead
Anaheim CA –SharePoint Conference – October 3, 2011– Metalogix Software, the trusted provider of content lifecycle management solutions for Microsoft® SharePoint®, Exchange®, and Cloud platforms, today announced that Knight Frank, a multinational real estate and property service firm, has standardized on Metalogix’s suite of solutions for SharePoint migration, management and data protection. Selecting Metalogix Migration Manager for SharePoint, Metalogix StoragePoint and Metalogix Selective Restore Manager for SharePoint, Knight Frank is able to speed its move from SharePoint 2007 to 2010 while reducing overall storage resource requirements and management overhead.
ClearPeople, a London based Metalogix partner and SharePoint business solution specialist, worked closely with Knight Frank devising their SharePoint 2007 to 2010 strategy. The main challenges that the Knight Frank SharePoint team faced was the method by which best to manage content in a SharePoint 2010 environment and to bring across only business relevant documents from existing file shares and content already harnessed in SharePoint 2007. Knight Frank found the Metalogix StoragePoint Librarian solution to be the perfect match in their strategy of incrementally moving only up-to-date documents from their file shares to SharePoint over an extended time period.
“The Metalogix product set covered all the bases of Knight Frank’s wisely formulated SharePoint strategy,” said Gabriel Karawani, head of business solutions, ClearPeople. “Furthermore, it was very clear that the Metalogix products were by far the front-runner when investigating the global market place for suitable products”.
Knight Frank LLP was founded in London in 1896. Knight Frank together with its New York-based affiliate Newmark Knight Frank is one of the world's leading independent global property consultancies. It has 207 offices in 43 countries, with staff of over 6,000. The group handled over $886 billion worth of commercial, agricultural and residential real estate in 2008-2009, advising clients ranging from individual owners and buyers to major developers, investors and corporate tenants.
The company relies on SharePoint as its company-wide collaboration and communication solution. Recently, the organization determined that it was time to migrate from its current SharePoint 2007 platform to SharePoint 2010 so that it could improve user productivity. The project, at first, seemed very daunting since Knight Frank had more than 700GB on a single content database. Even worse, the bloated database was causing backup problems and single document restores were very difficult to achieve. After evaluating point solutions from a few separate vendors, Knight Frank selected a suite of solutions from Metalogix for its comprehensive feature set, common user interface and strong SharePoint integration. After implementation of StoragePoint began, their database has been reduced from 700GB to 48GB.
“We needed a simplified solution to aid in our migration from SharePoint 2007 to 2010, while also enabling us to restore various items from the backup files,” said James White, technical architect, Knight Frank. “Metalogix offered a comprehensive suite of solutions to help us reduce our database size and migrate our content to the new SharePoint version while also enabling us to restore individual files and documents for seamless data protection. Plus, they offered it all with the continuity of a common user interface from a single vendor that is renowned for its superior SharePoint integration capabilities.”
For Knight Frank’s SharePoint content database, Metalogix StoragePoint externalizes SharePoint content Binary Large Objects (BLOBs), so that they may be stored on less expensive or more appropriate storage systems. This means their SQL clusters can be right-sized for optimal performance and the size of the SharePoint content database can be dramatically reduced while still maintaining critical metadata in the SQL Server SharePoint to ensure content is easily discovered and retrieved for ease of management within SharePoint.
Supporting Knight Frank’s migration from SharePoint 2007 to 2010, Metalogix Migration Manager for SharePoint uses a familiar copy-and-paste-style user interface which allows the company to quickly and transparently migrate all SharePoint sites, libraries, lists, web parts and permissions between servers.
For those individual documents and list items stored in native SharePoint backups, Knight Frank will use Selective Restore Manager for SharePoint to simplify the process of restoring items, all without having to rebuild the entire product database or deploy a temporary SharePoint recovery farm. Now Knight Frank is able to connect directly to its native SQL Server backup files, and navigate them as though they were live SharePoint sites.
“For customers like Knight Frank, Metalogix offers the suite of SharePoint migration, management and data protection products they need to simplify and optimize their current environment while reducing the risks associated with critical content migrations, document restores and data protection,” said Steven Murphy, CEO Metalogix. “We match the value of our solutions with world-class support services and the assurance of knowing that our products have been developed closely with Microsoft to adhere to their mandated SharePoint APIs so that integration is seamless and secure.”
