What SSD performance specs can you believe?

by Jim Bahn, Astute Networks VNM020413 - Leah Schoeb of The Evaluator Group, wrote a nice piece about storage benchmarking that we highly recommend. It appears in the January issue of Storage Magazine http://bit.ly/113klb2, and at http://bit.ly/YPgHQv. I won’t reiterate her article here, but I would like to simply point out that the specs many vendors throw around don’t come with the appropriate caveats. They don’t mention block size, or special caching, or what network protocols were used. And if you’re like me and you grew up in the HDD world, be prepared for a different set of rules for measuring and benchmarking solid state storage. Read more at http://bit.ly/XbE6Xx

Can You Trust VDI Storage Benchmarks?

Author: George Crump, Storage Switzerland VNM020113 - VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) implementation projects are going to be priorities for many IT Managers in 2013 and a key concern will be end-user acceptance. If the users don't embrace their virtual desktops they won't use them and the project is doomed to failure. The key to acceptance is to provide users with an environment that feels the same, performs better and is more reliable than their current stand-alone system. The storage system bears most of the responsibility in delivering that experience. Read more at http://bit.ly/ZaxWuQ
